Game 4 vs Medieval Portuguese
Last round I was third, and faced Marco Mondin using Medieval Portuguese. BdS in great number used by a guy that knew well his army.
The battlefield was complicated by the presence of two rocky hill in the enemy half. They could be used to create a strong defensive position. I tought for a while about flank marching the Psiloi corps on the left, but finally I decided to ambush 8 PsO on the right, in the wooded hill to outflank the enemy position there. I concealed C2 in the center and ambushed 8 more IBwO from C1 on the far left.
The enemy was very strong. Many BdS, some of them english so bw supported.
Portuguese had a lot of Ps on the left, and seeing the psiloi attack on the right, decided to dispatching the ordinary ones there.
I used the Bw ambush on the left to start peppering the PsS, that immediately took casualties
Unfortunately I had to deploy the concealed corps on turn 2, and this was immediately in a messy position, facing the portuguese BdS line.
The portuguese moved back the PsO column to bolster his left. There he had pips problem, having to manouver PsO, Cv, BdS and the scattered PsS. I kept shooting and the casualty tally rose more and more.
On the right I attacked the enemy in manouver, before he could finish to adjust his position.
With the BdS reserve not properly deployed I could hard flank several targets once a breakthrough was made.
Mapuche lost many IPkF, and after an hard struggle they broke an enemy corps
The game went on with heavy fighting along all the line, when finally almost all the psiloi on the portguese left were killed exposing the reserve of cavalry. The archers after a brief fighting routed these and the whole enemy army. 23-2
A very hard game, BdS proved tough and deadly, but this time I eliminated a couple fighting 2-5 and 3-5 in their bound and could exploit the gaps.
The final score was 77 enough for a second place in the tournament. I was happy, and delighted to realize, once more, how in DBMM every army has its chance in the right conditions.
