Defending the Limes - Game 1 vs Sarmatian

The first game I met Sarmatians. I was very afraid of this enemy, because it could merely swamp and trample my army with the mass of knights.

As defender I tried to have a battlefield to hamper the enemy, and the result was very good. Two big rocky hills hampered the enemy army, that sit away waiting for my move.

I attacked on the left, sending my mobile corps to outflank the enemy

The roman light horsee failed to inflict casualties, but gained time for the heavier troops to deploy

The attack was swift. The BdX proved decisive. The BdS left the hill to support roman cavalry and engaged sarmatian knights

Soon the Pretorians were in a dangerous position, being charged by the numerous enemy horses. The corps was disheartened but it saved retreating back on the rocky hill

The sarmatian right wing in the meantime had to close with the romans due some 1 pip rolled

When finally another 1 pip was rolled, it charged the roman that were uphill in the rocky ground. The battle ended in few combat round. 22-3 to Romans.

A very difficult game for the Sarmatian, with a bad terrain to cope with. The mauling of pretorian corps confirms that, if the army should meet on level ground, the Romans would be in great peril.
